Xenos Repository allows high-volume customer statements, electronic documents and scanned images to be stored and searched intelligently

Exclusive new Actuate/AIIM findings challenge ‘big data’ hype-mongers to translate real customer issues into tangible solutions as gap between web-based information access and internal business intelligence continues to widen

AIIM Roadshow UK – June 18th, 2012 – Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ: BIRT), The people behind BIRT® and the leader in open source Business Intelligence (BI), will be attending the 2012 AIIM Roadshow at the Edinburgh and London locations on June 18th and 21st. It will use the prestigious annual enterprise content management event to distribute the results of timely new research on big data, and to preview its latest technology solution, Xenos Repository.

The exclusive research, conducted on behalf of Actuate by AIIM, explores the most pressing issues faced by organisations as they strive to connect their disparate data assets to deliver timely, actionable information at the point of need. It reveals that 61% of information users would find it “very useful” to be able to link structured and unstructured datasets. Currently, unified data access across content repositories is a struggle for most respondents.

More than half of those interviewed said they would find it “very valuable” (56%) or “hugely valuable” (18%) to be able to carry out sophisticated analytics on unstructured content - particularly in pattern analysis, keyword correlation, incident prediction and fraud prevention.

The findings highlight the contrast between organisations’ internal experience of accessing relevant, up-to-date decision-supporting information compared with their ability to pinpoint a wealth of data on almost any other subject via the public Internet. As many as 80% of respondents admitted that they had no extended search capability across multiple repositories, while 70% said they found it “harder” or “much harder” (23%) to access key information held on internal systems versus that available on the Web - even though the content exists within their organisation.

Commenting on the findings, Nobby Akiha, Senior VP of Marketing at Actuate, said, "While big data is a new and exciting issue to grapple with, it underscores the overall question of how best to source and deliver key insights into the hands of the people that can act on that data - for maximum impact on customer communications management, and on the organisation as a whole.”

A lack of standardised analysis tools is often a significant issue for improving business intelligence. To this end Actuate’s, Xenos Group, the Company’s enterprise class content management arm will showcase its new Repository solution at the AIIM Roadshow.

The new product is part of Actuate’s fully integrated Xenos Application Framework, which allows large companies to combine and extract new value from documents that exists in high volumes – for example customer bills, statements and policies generated by financial services, insurance and telecoms providers. Specifically, Xenos Repository allows high-volume customer statements, electronic documents and scanned images to be stored and searched intelligently, releasing their content for easy access through multiple channels and devices – whether by internal users, or customers.

Hinting at some of the capabilities of Xenos Repository in advance of its launch, Jeff Mills, VP International – Xenos Group at Actuate said, “For too long knowledge workers have found it almost impossible to put their finger on the latest information they need about a particular aspect of their business at the time they need it. This is in stark contrast to their experience in just about every other aspect of their life when it comes to researching something quickly via the web. Xenos Repository is about closing that gap and equipping users and even customers with the information they need, when they need it - however disparate, large and unwieldy the original sources.”
