the most popular bet in the build up to Royal Ascot has been punters backing both Frankel and Black Caviar to win a double

Royal Ascot 2012 gets underway on Tuesday 19th June and over the course of five days, the Berkshire track will play host to 30 races, seven of which are Group One events, amidst the, ceremony, glamour and pageantry that makes this the most prestigious race meeting in the world.

HM The Queen and many members of the Royal Family will be in attendance, arriving in horse drawn carriages, colourfully parading on the course before racing begins each day. The procession sets the scene on what has become one of this country’s most iconic sporting spectacles, which in turn attracts the cream of society. Lords, Ladies, Knights and Earls will descend on the Royal course and will be joined on Thursday by some of the country’s finest dressed ladies, who, over the years, have made what is known as Ladies Day the most colourful of all days in racing.

More importantly, this year's Royal Meeting has also attracted the two highest rated horses in the world, British based Frankel and Australian Raider, Black Caviar.

Frankel is trained by Sir Henry Cecil in Newmarket, remains unbeaten after 10 career starts and is the red hot favourite at odds of 1/5 to win the meeting's "curtain raiser", the Queen Anne Stakes, on Tuesday afternoon.

Black Caviar, is also unbeaten but her winning sequence currently stands at 21 races and it will be the first time she has raced outside of Australia when she lines up in the Group One, Diamond Jubilee Stakes, on Saturday. Like Frankel, she too is a red hot favourite to win at odds of 1/3 and can report that the most popular bet in the build up to Royal Ascot has been punters backing both Frankel and Black Caviar to win a double, a potential result that will have the bookmakers running for cover should they both successfully extend their unbeaten runs.

Other feature races across the week include the King's Stand Stakes and St Jame's Palace Stakes on Tuesday, the Prince of Wales's Stake on Wednesday, the Ascot Gold Cup on Ladies Day and the Coronation Stakes on Friday.
