With Child Safety Week behind us (18 – 24 June), a survey of parents by Simple Safety Solutions reveals that over half admit that their homes are not as well child and baby proofed as they could be.

Top of the list of safety measures in place to prevent accidents amongst the 500 parents surveyed are safety gates with 74.5% using them at home. Window and cupboard locks were the next most popular products (53% and 52% of respondents respectively), followed closely by door catches, fireguards and oven guards.

Parents were asked how much they would be willing to spend on safety proofing their homes. The highest percentage, nearly 28%, said they would spend between fifty and one hundred pounds. 25% said between one hundred and one hundred and fifty pounds. Only 16% would invest between one hundred and fifty and two hundred pounds and 7.4% would spend between 200 GBP and 250 GBP. 9.6% of parents would spend over 250 GBP.

When it comes to what parents look for when buying child safety products, reviews and recommendations were sought by a quarter of respondents.

The survey results were collected by SurveyMonkey online with parents being entered into a competition upon completing the survey to win various prizes such as baby monitors.
