Speakers at this year’s event include Wheelchair Basketball Paralympian, Clare Strange, and Confused.com founder, Sara Murray

This year’s theme is ‘Liberating the Individual to Live Independently’

SEHTA’s annual Meet the Buyers event will this year be held on the 14th of September at the Wolfson Conference Centre, Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. This international event brings together the biggest telecare and telehealth procurers and the very best service and technology providers for partnering, networking and potential deal making.

Meet the Buyers 2012 is aimed at all those interested in the use of technology to promote the health, wellbeing and independence of individuals, both in the UK and internationally. Participants include businesses, technology procurers and suppliers, service providers and users, local government, healthcare professionals, academia, industry associations and third sector organisations. Speakers at this year’s event include Wheelchair Basketball Paralympian, Clare Strange, and Confused.com founder, Sara Murray.

The event is organised by SEHTA in conjunction with its Aylesbury Vale ICE-T (International Centre of Excellence in Telecare) Showcase site. The ICE-T showcase site partners are Aylesbury Vale District Council, Stoke Mandeville National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC) and Bucks New University.

The showcase site is one of three ICE-T sites that provide facilities for research, simulating real-life environments reflecting specific themes. They demonstrate the use of technology in the delivery of care and also establish external contacts to act as test sites and provide initial routes to market for technologies and services developed by ICE-T projects.

The theme of this year’s event is ‘Liberating the Individual to Live Independently', reflecting the use of health technology to enable independent living. Delegates will hear from experts talking about the commercial, academic and clinical issues involved in the delivery of products and services to aid assisted living. The timing and location of the event have been specifically chosen to complement the involvement of the showcase site partners in the 2012 Paralympic Games.

Dr David Parry, CEO of SEHTA, said: “Meet the Buyers has become an important forum for buyers of telecare and telehealth systems and services to learn more about the innovative technologies that are available or in development. It also represents a window of opportunity for businesses selling such technologies to learn about the needs of buyers in the private and public health service and potentially secure new contracts.”

Meet the Buyers 2012 has three streams: a conference, including keynote speakers from the worlds of sport, business, healthcare and academia; an exhibition, with stands from leading telehealth service and technology providers; and partnering, where buyers and sellers can meet and potentially make deals.

Speakers include: Dr David Parry, CEO SEHTA, Mike Biddle, Innovation Platform Leader – Assisted Living, Technology Strategy Board, & Chairman AAL, Alison Graham, Consultant Physician, National Spinal Injuries Centre, Clare Strange, Paralympian, Wheelchair Basketball, Sara Murray, buddi (founder of Confused.com), Hossein Sharifi, Managing Director, Care Harmony Solutions, Adam Willison, Joint Commissioning Manager, Buckinghamshire Council, Brian Hamilton, Director, Message Dynamics, Keith Chessell, CEO Solcom Limited (Creator of Whzan), Malcolm Stewart, Director, The Big Media House, Tom Owen, Marketing Development Manager Independent Living (GE/Care Innovations) and Crystal Oldman, Dean of Enterprise and Business Management, Bucks New University.
