Choristers with an array of instruments

a musical fundraising performance on Saturday, 14 July at The Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace which will run from 10am until 5:30pm.

Hampton Court Palace: Current and past choristers of The Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace are holding a sponsored practice between 30 June and 14 July, culminating in a musical fundraising performance on Saturday, 14 July at The Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace which will run from 10am until 5:30pm.

Run in aid of the Choral Foundation which needs to raise £1.5m to secure the future of the rich musical heritage of the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace, the sponsored practice will involve the choristers practicing their instrument or voice for at least 15 minutes every day for the two week period leading up to the fundraising finale. On the day, current choristers will be joined by former choristers, many of whom are accomplished musicians including several Oxbridge organ scholars. There will be a wide variety of music to suit all tastes --the boys will be playing or singing solos and in ensembles – including a Barbershop group and a Woodwind quintet.

This unique event is free and will be open to the public and all are welcome to attend and to stay as long as they wish.

To date, the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace Choir has been largely self-funded through donations from the congregation but due to growing expenses, funding is now insufficient to sustain the Choir.

The Choral Foundation was created to ensure that worshippers and visitors continue to have the opportunity to experience the musical heritage of the Church of England at Hampton Court Palace. Donations to The Choral Foundation helps to fund the musical training of the Choir boys, and will also enable the repair of the historic organ to bring it back to world class standard, and fund professional Gentleman singers so they can practise and perform regularly with The Chapel Royal Choir. Thanks to the generosity of parishioners and the general public, almost half of the target amount (£731,000) has been raised.

Many people are unaware they can worship at or visit the chapel. Canon Denis Mulliner, Chaplain of The Chapel Royal, stated “The public are most welcome to attend the services on any Sunday, as well as Holy Days. Worshippers do not pay the Palace entrance fee. The Chapel Royal is a hidden treasure, a living, vibrant church with an outstanding choir at the centre of an historic royal palace. We would like to share this with as many visitors as possible.”
