Seven Tayside health boards are now live on Advanced’s shared finance system

NHSScotland today announces that phase one of its financial systems shared services project has been a success, going live on time and to budget.

The phase one go-live, which took place on 1 April 2012, involves seven health boards - NHS Tayside, NHS Forth Valley, NHS Highland, NHS Fife, NHS Borders, NHS Western Isles and Scottish Ambulance Service. These boards are now live on a single, multi-company Advanced Business Solutions (Advanced) financial management system with integrated document management (Version One) and business intelligence (SAP BusinessObjects). The Boards have also rolled out eProcurement.

Phase two of the project will bring a further seven health boards onboard with a planned go-live of 1 October 2012. The final phase involves bringing on the final eight health boards including two of the largest healthcare authorities in the UK by 1 April 2013, completing the migration of all 22 Scottish NHS bodies to Advanced’s shared financial management system.

The first wave of seven health boards is now using a common chart of accounts and is operating common pre-agreed ‘national standard’ business processes to deliver a shared services model in line with the Scottish Government’s efficiency agenda.

NHSScotland is anticipating a range of benefits from the full roll-out of the single instance including automated, streamlined processes and reduced costs from having to pay for the maintenance and support of just one finance system.

John Francis, Programme Director from the Shared Support Services Programme says, “The shared use of Advanced’s finance system is enabling the roll-out of standard nationally-approved financial processes. With everyone operating on the same system and within the same framework, this should provide the foundation for significant cost and efficiency savings.”

Francis adds, “Having a single system will also facilitate better integration with other systems and greatly enhance business information.”
