Cambridgeshire, UK: A young Cambridgeshire student’s plan to win the gold medal for Team GB was given a boost last week when she landed a lucrative sponsorship deal. Staff performance improvement consultancy, One Performance Outcome, based in her home county of Cambridgeshire, handed over the keys to a brand-new Citroen C1 car, as part of a package of support to give the young athlete the best chance at the games.

Nineteen year old Lauren was born without her right hand and arm below the elbow joint and had a passion for swimming from a very early age. She started swimming before she was even a year old. At the age of four, she was inspired by a meeting with Olympic swimmer Mark Foster and set herself the goal of competing in the Paralympics. She has packed a huge amount of achievements into her young years, not only in her sport but educationally and personally. Her sheer grit and determination has never let her disability stand in the way of achieving her goals.

Lauren said: “I am so proud that I have been able to represent my country not just once, but twice. I competed at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games in the 50, 100 and 400 Freestyle events, when I was just 15 years old, but the 2012 Games will be the biggest ones yet! I feel honoured at the chance to represent my country and am trying my very best. After the Games, studying for a Psychology Degree at Portsmouth University will be a different kind of challenge altogether!”

One Performance Outcome have agreed a generous sponsorship package for the young hopeful, and have donated the brand-new car so that she can travel easily during her gruelling training and racing regime.

Richard Leech, Managing Partner of sponsors One Performance Outcome, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have Lauren as one of our 2012 Performers. The similarities between sports performance and performance at work are clear - goal focus, team working and leadership to name just three. Lauren is a fantastic example of how you can overcome challenges to achieve what you want. Our first hope is that she wins the Gold Medal, and we’ll be eagerly cheering her on. We’re confident, though, that in any event she will come back from the Games with a unique insight into inspiring performance.”
