Dr Fox prices are normally 25% to 50% lower than other UK regulated online clinics.

Dr Fox online clinic has introduced a new service which allows women to obtain norethisterone tablets to delay their periods. Women who take norethisterone 4 to 5 days before the expected date of a period and continue to take it will not get their period until a day or two after they stop taking it. Periods can be delayed for up to 17 days or for shorter period if required.

Period delay treatment is particularly useful for women who wish to postpone their menstruation until after an important occasion, such as a wedding, special holiday or sports events. There are many times in a woman’s life when she might want to avoid having her period until later.

How it works

Norethisterone is similar to the naturally occurring hormone progesterone. Progesterone is a hormone which occurs in naturally high levels in the second half of a woman’s period. By taking norethisterone women are maintaining their progesterone activity and this delays the onset of a period.

Dr Fox online clinic is able to supply enough norethisterone to delay periods by up to 17 days. This means 20 days of tablets started 4 to 5 days before a period, with a period starting a few days after stopping medication. Norethisterone 5 mg tablets are taken three times daily as a continuous course, stopped when period delay is no longer required.

Period Delay and Contraception

Women who are already taking a contraceptive pill are not eligible. They can take their pills in a different way from normal to postpone their periods (NHS Choices website advice on delaying periods with contraceptive pills). Some women are prescribed norethisterone from their doctors for the control of difficult periods. These women are not eligible for period delay treatment from Dr Fox online clinic.
Norethisterone is not a contraceptive and is not suitable for women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant whilst taking it.

Side Effects of Norethisterone

Norethisterone is widely used to control periods, however it is not suitable for all women. There may be a tendency for this medication to lead to fluid retention. It can worsen migraine, epilepsy, asthma and high blood pressure. These side effects are unlikely to be important in situations where norethisterone is being taken for only a few days. Women with some pre-existing medical conditions are not eligible for period delay treatment from Dr Fox.

Most women do not experience side effects or have adverse reactions. There is a small increase risk of thrombosis whilst norethisterone is being taken. This risk increases in women who have had a thrombosis (DVT) in the past or for women who have pre-existing increased risk factors from conditions such as obesity or immobility and others. The risk of DVT (thrombosis) whilst taking norethisterone is small. A full list of side effects can be found in the manufacture’s patient information leaflet.
