London, 4th September – The PRCA, the PR trade body, has welcomed the appointment of former public relations professional Maria Miller as Secretary of State for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
The move, which comes as part of a much-anticipated wider cabinet reshuffle, sees Miller move from her role as Minister for Disabled People. She replaces Jeremy Hunt, who has moved in the other direction to head up the Department of Health.
Miller worked for the lobbying and PR company Rowland Communications for four years from 1999-2003 before becoming Member of Parliament for Basingstoke at the 2005 general election.
Francis Ingham, PRCA Chief Executive, commented: “It’s fantastic that there is another senior member of the Cabinet that understands public relations and the wider advertising and marketing field.
“In these tough times public relations is proving to be a real success story in the UK, and we welcome the appointment to such a crucial position for our industry a talented politician that we hope will further support our profession”.
