Over 50 UK companies represented at National Awards 2012 ceremony.

• Lloyds Banking Group, Visit Scotland, Hertfordshire Police East Sussex County Council and the Universities of Southampton and Kent receive prestigious workplace awards for mediation best practice.

• PMA receives increasing recognition as professional body representing UK workplace mediators.

INTRODUCTION

The National Mediation Awards were set up to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contribution that mediation is playing in organisations across the UK. The winners were announced at the National Mediation Awards held at the UK Mediation Academy in Central London.

David Liddle, President of the Professional Mediators Association said today:

“I was delighted by the incredible response to the inaugural national mediation awards. I would like to congratulate each of the winners for their hard work, leadership and creativity. I hope that they will act as an inspiration to other organisations interested in this innovative new approach to dispute resolution.”

THE WINNERS OF THE NATIONAL MEDIATION AWARDS 2012

The awards winners are listed below:

AWARD FOR BEST MEDIATION SCHEME 2012

The winner of this award is LLOYDS BANKING GROUP

The judges said: Lloyds Banking Group demonstrated excellence in the running of their internal mediation scheme. Lloyds were found to be monitoring their schemes performance and undertaking a process of continuous improvement. Lloyds Banking Group was also seen to be undertaking innovative activities to promote mediation.

Sally Jones-Evans, HR Director Group Operations and HR Operations, Lloyds Banking Group, said today:

“We are delighted to have been awarded Mediation Scheme of the Year 2012 by the Professional Mediators Association. Lloyds Banking Group's scheme, Mediate First, has gone from strength-to-strength since it was launched, with colleague feedback being extremely positive. Our trained mediators are passionate about their work and have been given a real boost with this external recognition.”

AWARD FOR MEDIATION SCHEME CO-ORDINATOR OF THE YEAR 2012

The co-winners of this award are Julie Foster from HERTFORDSHIRE CONSTABULARY and Mary Siddall from SOUTHAMPTON UNIVERSITY.

The judges said: Mary and Julie are both outstanding champions of their respective mediation schemes.

Mary Siddall, now with Springhouse solicitors, said today:

“I am delighted to have been named joint mediation co-ordinator of the year. It was great to attend the PMA awards and to see the quality and number of organisations who are putting mediation at the heart of their processes.”

Julie Foster said today:

“It was a great surprise to receive the award for work that has been so close to my heart. I look forward to taking our mediation scheme from strength to strength in the coming year”

AWARD FOR INDEPENDENT MEDIATOR 2012

The winner of this award is DILYS LLOYD

The judges said: Dilys has demonstrated a commitment to best practice in mediation and is committed to her own and others continued professional development within the mediation community.

Dilys Lloyd, said today:

“The PMA provides individual mediators, like myself, with an invaluable forum for discussion, training and support and I was delighted to win the accolade Independent Mediator of the Year. The award ceremony itself proved to be a great opportunity for interesting discussion and networking.”

AWARD FOR NEWCOMER TO MEDIATION 2012

The winner of this award is THE UNIVERSITY OF KENT

The judges said: The University of Kent were exceptional in the setup and implementation of their Internal Mediation.

Nikki Hyde, HR advisor at the University of Kent said today:

“We are delighted to win the PMA National Mediation Award for Best Newcomer to Mediation. This represents the culmination of all of the hard work our Mediators have put into creating a new, effective, Mediation Service. This award also recognises and supports our collective interest in encouraging two way dialogue and discussions where people are able to jointly find solutions to differences.”

AWARD FOR IN-HOUSE MEDIATOR OF THE YEAR SCHEME 2012

The winner of this award is Leatham Green from EAST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL

The judges said: Leatham supports the development of his peers and others within the mediation community. He continues to demonstrate a commitment to mediation best practice as outlined in the PMA practice standards and code of conduct.

Leatham Green, said today:

“I was thrilled to receive the award and considered it to be a privilege to have the recognition of fellow mediators and the endorsement of the PMA means a great deal to me.”

AWARD FOR OVERALL MEDIATION BEST PRACTICE 2012

The winner of this award is VISIT SCOTLAND

The judges said: Visit Scotland demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field of mediation. Visit Scotland have acted as an inspiration to numerous other organisations considering using mediation or setting up a mediation scheme.

Chris McCoy, Equality and Diversity Manager at Visit Scotland said today:

“Visit Scotland is very pleased and proud to win this award. It proves that the mediation team that we set up has work really well and our business model is really successful.”
