Gaming websites that have recently received licenses to operate their product in the Spanish market, such as casino and betting site and Bwin.Party’s bingo offering, may be well placed to attract users despite regulatory legislation being introduced.

This is due to figures released by the Broadband Commission for Digital Development that shows the total number of internet users accessing online pages in Spanish currently makes up 8% of the worldwide internet usage. A new report released last month shows that Spanish speaking users are the third largest sector of internet users in the world. Despite this, they are still placed quite far behind the second and first positions. Chinese speakers are in second place, making up 24% of internet users and English speakers have snatched the top spot, accounting for 27%. The commission analysis predicts that Chinese speakers will overtake their English counterpart soon though, saying: “if current growth rate continues, the total number of internet users accessing the internet in Chinese may overtake the number of internet users predominately using English in 2015.”

Although 8% may not appear to account for much, the Spanish sector of internet users has experienced exceptional growth. According to information on the website, Spanish speakers only account for 6.1% of the world’s population but have still increased internet usage by 807.4% between 2000 and 2011. This is over double the internet growth among English speakers, which stands at 301.4%.

The study by the Broadband Commission for Digital Development also gives some indication as to how Bovada, Binguez and other similar sites can increase their customer base. Many gambling and bingo sites have made the move onto mobile devices and the report confirms that this new platform is growing in popularity. Projections made by the commission state that by 2017 the number of smartphones worldwide is expected to exceed 3 billion. In addition to this there are currently around 6 billion mobile subscriptions across the world, meaning that nearly three fourths of the human population have access to a mobile phone, many of which offer internet access. Therefore, these mobile gaming applications are in a strong position to access players.
