Glass door knobs are proving to be one of the hottest runaway door hardware trends of 2012 as they deliver a little piece of sparkling affordable opulence to UK home owners in a flat housing market.

A stagnant housing market has led to an increase in UK home owners putting thoughts of moving to one side, getting away from the ‘blank canvas for buyers’ look and putting their individual design stamp on their home.

Compatibility with some of the UK’s hottest interior trends fro 2012 have seen the glass door knob make a welcome return to UK homes. Echoes of the crystal chandeliers of Victorian opulence are still there but these days the glass door knob can be chic and quirky as well as elegant and very practical.

The latest versions are available in striking blue, green, and subtle pink as well as traditional clear glass. The globe shaped optical grade glass knob is available in a clear, facetted or frosted finish and is mounted on a chrome plated brass rose base.

“Quite apart from looking amazing these modern glass door knobs have actually got a few extra great practical and aesthetic tricks up their sleeves” says James Gumersell of door hardware online retailer

“The chrome plated base doesn’t scratch or corrode like the old zinc versions. The optical grade glass means a great uniform shape, and complete clarity with no imperfections. The ultra violet cured solid adhesive bond ensures the knob never leaves the rose. All this and a 10 year warranty too - these latest glass door knobs are a real step up from anything we’ve seen before” says James.

Glass door knobs with an un-sprung chrome plated base are supplied in pairs with the necessary matching screws and spindle. At less than £30 James thinks that they are a very affordable piece of luxury for any home.

“They ‘re a change from the usual brass, chrome and steel door knobs, they look stunning and they fit in so well with the top interior design trends of today. The modern materials and manufacturing mean that they’re actually really strong so they’re going to last” says James.

Matching cabinet knobs are also available for a consistent look throughout the home.
