This new DataCloud Service brings the familiar cost and operational benefits of SingTel’s cloud infrastructure

Collaboration brings clickable DataCloud service to SingTel’s cloud computing platform

SINGAPORE and STOCKHOLM, 5th November – Severalnines, provider of automation and management software for clustered database platforms, and Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (SingTel), Asia’s leading communications group have announced a new cloud computing collaboration.

The new Database as a Service (DBaaS) solution is aimed at companies based in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region with a need for rapidly-provisioned enterprise class databases which can provide business agility. The Severalnines DataCloud Service is now available on SingTel PowerON Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), SingTel’s cloud computing platform for SMEs and large enterprises.

Organizations with operations within the APAC region can now benefit from the savings and flexibility enabled by locally operated cloud-based database services backed by a global brand. The Severalnines DataCloud Service allows customers to easily set up, operate and scale a world-class relational database in the cloud, rather than self-provision. The service manages time-consuming database tasks including installation, configuration, upgrades, checking on database health, handling failures and adding capacity with the click of a button.

The Severalnines DataCloud platform is a database automation and management platform that helps companies run flexible databases anywhere, whether on their premises or in the cloud. It allows companies to outsource the deployment and management of their databases and only pay for what they use. Specific benefits of this service include:

• Web interface for easy provisioning
• Zero maintenance or administration – backups, patch management and replication handling are fully automated;
• Performance Management – users have visibility of top queries and can drill-down into specific performance metrics;
• High Availability – failures are handled automatically to minimise downtime;
• Scalability – companies can add more users at the click of a mouse; and
• Data import and export functionality help move MySQL databases within the cloud.

Mr Alvin Kok, Head of Infocomm Services, SingTel, said, “Exponential growth in data has started to transform businesses, governments and our everyday life. Driven by more online users, smart-phones, sensors and Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFIDs), SingTel has recognized the need for rapidly deployable and reliable IT infrastructure. This new DataCloud Service brings the familiar cost and operational benefits of SingTel’s cloud infrastructure – self service, automatic provisioning, flexible scaling and pay-per-use - into the database realm. For switched-on enterprises, these benefits translate into increased productivity, lower operating expenditure and enhanced agility.”

Mr Vinay Joosery, CEO of Severalnines, said: “We are thrilled to be expanding our presence in the booming APAC region, in collaboration with a truly global player like SingTel”, says Vinay Joosery, CEO of Severalnines. “We both know companies have been looking for, yet not finding, industry proven solutions to the data management problem, until now. The combination of our innovative database automation software and SingTel’s telco grade infrastructure will be of great benefit to customers in the region.”

The Severalnines DBaaS service in APAC is powered by SingTel’s cloud computing platform permitting unlimited growth with a focus on stability, redundancy and low latency. It will be showcased on November 6th at SingTel i.luminate 2012, Resorts World Sentosa, where Severalnines VP Products Alexander Yu will be running two workshops on DBaaS services.
