“Tales of the Woo” has been created and composed specially for Worcestershire

November 2012

America has long since celebrated its cities and States with musicals like Oklahoma and through songs such as Chicago and New York, New York. But, other than London, the UK has kept its town and county lights' under a musical bushel. Until now!

“Tales of the Woo” has been created and composed specially for Worcestershire on the back of the recent announcement the city is to have a major new arts quarter on the site of the former Worcester Porcelain Works.

Plans are also afoot to create a new Fame Academy with the aim of making the county a major centre of excellence for the arts, outside London.

The musical showcases local talent and has been directed by, and stars, Worcester’s own Katie Love (BBC “So You Think you can Dance”). The cast also includes up-and-coming performers who have forged significant reputations in the annual Worcester Music Festivals. Indeed the name “Woo” is how many of the young people of Worcester refer to the City in text speak.

Commenting, Katie Love said:

“I grew up in Worcester but left to go to London to further my education and experience in performing arts. There seems to be a belief among young, talented people in Worcestershire that you have to “leave to achieve”.

“Tales of The Woo” is at Worcester’s Guildhall on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of November. Doors open at 6.00pm for evening performances with the performance at 7.30pm. Doors open for the matinee on 24th at 1.00pm with the performance at 2.30pm and at 1.30pm on 25th with the performance beginning at 3.00pm. There is no evening performance on 25th.
