November 26 2012 – Westminster Drug Project (WDP) is implementing a financial management system (OpenAccounts) from Advanced Business Solutions (Advanced) to streamline its financial processes and cut time-consuming administration. This system, which has integrated electronic procurement and document management functionality (powered by Version One), will save the charity four days per month in administration and thousands of pounds per year. The planned go-live is November 2012.
WDP, which provides drug and alcohol treatment services in London and the South East, has increased its growth in recent years. As a result of the expansion, the charity has outgrown its current financial system, requiring a more sophisticated solution to meet its evolving needs.
After a competitive tendering process, WDP selected Advanced’s OpenAccounts as its new finance system because of its rich functionality, ease-of-use and flexibility to integrate with other systems. It was also recognised that OpenAccounts could significantly improve the accuracy and speed of financial reports for the WDP board and its funders.
Five members of the finance team as well as budget holders, administrators and senior managers across the charity’s 26 sites will be using the OpenAccounts system.

The integrated document management functionality will allow the charity to free-up document storage space and eliminate time-consuming document handling. The charity estimates savings of £3,000 each year in archiving and postage costs and by reducing paper use, WDP will also be supporting its environmental agenda.
WDP will also benefit from the system’s e-procurement functionality which will enable the charity to better monitor and streamline its purchasing.
Ademolake says, “Advanced’s system will empower budget holders to monitor their own budgets more effectively and free-up the finance department’s time so that they can focus on adding value. We anticipate that the system will save the finance team at least one day per week currently spent on administration.”
