Kier Group, a leading construction, development and services Group, has selected m-hance to design and implement a new intranet portal solution for its several thousand employees situated in the UK. This major IT project, which will comprise 144 service days including training, will be delivered in two-phases with an estimated go-live of March 2013.

Kier required a bespoke and user-friendly intranet solution to replace its existing Kierdoc portal to improve organisation-wide collaboration and increase knowledge sharing and peer to peer learning between its employees. m-hance’s solution, which is based on the latest SharePoint technology, will enable Kier’s staff to improve communication through the portal’s enterprise social networking tools and easily access, share and publish up-to-date information from one centralised gateway to improve efficiency.

Adrian Bird, Head of IT Group at Kier Group, says, “Our existing Kierdoc intranet has been used historically as a document management and storage function rather than fulfilling our needs as an effective enterprise collaboration tool. After reviewing the market, it was clear that m-hance possessed a wealth of experience and has a successful track record of creating highly functional intranets successfully based on a SharePoint platform.”

Bird continues, “As well as configuring and building the new solution, m-hance will also assist, mentor and support its deployment through additional training services whilst supporting our changing development needs both now and in the future.”

m-hance’s Intranet solution, which will be seamlessly integrated with Kier’s Active Directory database, will considerably improve the speed of information access, collaboration and productivity levels using the portal’s powerful search and indexing functionality. The portal will also provide the secure electronic storage of documents with version control relating to Kier’s vast array of projects, policies and best practice procedures, eliminating the need to manually copy and distribute out-of-date information or request hard copies in paper format.

In addition, the portal’s enterprise social networking tools will enable Kier’s employees to quickly access up-to-date contact details and communicate on a one-to-one basis or in teams with internal experts in specialist fields to better share knowledge and answer queries to maximise business opportunities.

Bird comments, “m-hance’s solution will provide us with an efficient, state-of-the art platform to create a unified internal culture based on the Kier brand, best practice and policies. By having common access to relevant and up-to-date information we will considerably improve organisation-wide collaboration and increase productivity by bringing together all of Kier’s widespread employees in a single, centralised portal.”

Bird adds, “The ability to easily share knowledge via public and private message feeds, blogs, corporate news updates will also ensure that employees now only need to go to one place to access the latest document and policy related information. This will assist us to promote a ‘one Kier’ culture and increase employee engagement to positively impact our bottom line.”
