Anglian competition winning entry

if you are lucky enough to own a conservatory, it can provide the extra space needed for family and friends at this convivial time of year

Anglian Home Improvements has announced the lucky winners of its recent Home for Christmas photo competition to find the best dressed Christmas window, conservatory and garden.

The impressive judging panel comprised TV presenter and environmental science expert Philippa Forrester for the windows category, House Beautiful magazine editor Julia Goodwin for conservatories, and TV garden expert David Domoney for the most festive garden category. One winner was selected in each category to win a delightful gift box full of festive food and drink treats.

Each of the judges explained their reasons for choosing the winners, giving us all some great tips for Christmas along the way about how to make the right impression with our own seasonal decorations.

Philippa Forrester picked Adele Knight from County Durham as the winner of the windows category, explaining, “I think the light, the little cottages, the Christmas tree and, most of all, the child peering out make this a really welcoming and homely image. It sums up Christmas for me, reminding me of the excitement of peering out of the window, in a beautifully decorated home, waiting for loved ones to arrive and the festivities to begin.”

House Beautiful magazine editor Julia Goodwin selected Emma Gallagher from West Sussex as the winner for the conservatories category, choosing an entry that shows good use of the benefits a conservatory can bring all year round. She explained, “This winning entry demonstrates a lovely use of the extra space and light that a conservatory provides. The long table, decorated with festive centrepieces and cloth, looks out onto the garden so that family and friends can share the festive meal and feel part of the natural world too.”

David Domoney chose the festive garden winner as being Amanda Marman from Essex. He said, “I have chosen this entry because the owners have been jolly generous with their illuminations. The blue apex lit roof and red door gives a grotto like feeling full of Christmas magic. Other illuminations add more festive sparkle to the home, subtle yet very effective. All you need now is a choir standing to the right singing ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’!”

This is the perfect time of year to make your home feel cosy and festive, while it’s cold and dark outside. And if you are lucky enough to own a conservatory, it can provide the extra space needed for family and friends at this convivial time of year, as well as making the most of the daylight that is available.
