New research by hamper company Virginia Hayward gathered in the run up to Christmas has revealed that people are making quick decisions on the gifts that they are buying. Their survey revealed that 40% of people spend between 5 and 10 minutes deciding if they want to purchase a gift which shows that consumers this year are making swift choices in a fast paced shopping environment.

Additionally, 18% of the participants said they take just between 1 and 5 minutes to choose a gift, meaning that almost a fifth of people make a snap decision. The survey also revealed that 46% of people prefer to buy their Christmas gifts online, compared to 34% on the high-street. The rise in tablets and smartphones supports this as they provide better access to a wide range of products that
they can be bought instantly.

Further research showed that 68% of participants said Christmas is the most popular time of year to buy a hamper. Reaffirming this statistic, Virginia Hayward’s top selling products this year areall Christmas hampers; The “Merry Christmas Basket”, “The Decadence” and the beautiful “Taste of Christmas”, coming in as the top 3 bestsellers.

In response to this research, Justin Walmsley, Digital Marketing Manager at Virginia Hayward said: “With the increase in shopping online, as well as mobile and tablet shopping, people have the ability to make quicker decisions and buy certain gifts instantly which was not possible before. We have seen decision making and buying happening fairly quickly this year with around 82% of people who
