holidaymakers are currently looking for the kind of British summer holiday that reminds them of their childhood.

Despite one of the wettest summers on record last year, Brits still hanker after the traditional British seaside break of days gone by, according to holiday rentals specialists Owners Direct

Far from being put off by soggy deckchairs on the beach and the inevitable picnics in the car, holidaymakers are currently looking for the kind of British summer holiday that reminds them of their childhood.

Partly due to the Olympics and recession in 2012, more people than ever before last year opted for a staycation. Now Owners Direct predicts that British holidays to places like Bournemouth, Brighton and St. Ives will be just as popular in 2013, having seen a rise in enquiries to these traditional seaside towns.

One of the biggest winners in the UK is the seaside town of Bournemouth where Owners Direct has seen a whopping 86% increase in enquiries. St. Ives in Cornwall is predicted to be another summer holiday hotspot, being the UK location receiving the most enquires and a 75% year on year increase.

Holidaymakers have said what they love about Bournemouth is its accessibility, the seven miles of clean sandy beaches, great watersports, family attractions for all ages, and the variety of restaurants and shops. Whilst keeping its reputation as a traditional British seaside town, it is also well known for having a vibrant, buzzing atmosphere.

As one holidaymaker put it: “When we go to Bournemouth, we don’t really care about the weather. There’s so much for everyone to do there and we just love the atmosphere. I guess we feel nostalgic about the place too having always gone on holiday to Bournemouth as a child,”

For those venturing further afield for guaranteed sunshine, Owners Direct predicts Tenerife as being the top destination this year - the most popular location being Los Christianos. Other highly popular searches on the site include Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Mallorca, the Algarve and the Costa del Sol. Puerto Banus, the playground of the rich and famous is very highly sought after.

Owners Direct has also reported a big increase in property listings for Tenerife to cope with this increased demand.
