Data leakage is a bigger potential problem now than ever before

Woking, Surrey: 4th March, 2013 - We could be heading for a data leakage explosion, said Ian Kilpatrick, chairman Wick Hill Group, if companies don’t address the issues and secure their increasingly vulnerable data environments. Kilpatrick was speaking as the company announced it had become a distributor for leading security solutions vendor Becrypt.

“Data leakage is a bigger potential problem now than ever before,” said Kilpatrick. “This is down to the ever-growing amounts of data and the increasing diversity of network infrastructures, which now encompass smartphones, tablets, virtual servers, cloud computing, wireless computing, social networking and remote working.

“These changes are happening rapidly, with some developments, such as BYOD, being employee-driven, rather than instituted by the IT department. So IT managers have to take steps to make sure their security measures keep pace with these rapid developments, and not let them get out of control.

“The growing proclivity of various regulatory bodies to levy fines on organisations responsible for data leakage is an added incentive for companies to take more action to secure their data.”

Amazingly, said Kilpatrick, both encryption and authentication, two key solutions for combating data leakage, are still underused and will be key to protecting against data leakage.

“I believe that Becrypt,” he said “with its origins in providing solutions for organisations with high security needs such as government, the police, financial institutions and the nuclear industry, can provide the solutions users need to protect from data leakage today. Becrypt is particularly strong on encryption, and its innovative range includes secure virtual platforms, encryption for tablets, access point security, and secure remote working solutions.”

Two new additions to the Becrypt range

Last week saw the launch of two new solutions in the Becrypt range.

The tVolution Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) management platform is for organisations looking to implement a virtualisation strategy. It provides a secure, yet low-cost way to manage a VDI estate. It is hardware agnostic and can be used to completely replace Windows, significantly simplifying the IT infrastructure and associated support overheads.

tVolution turns any desktop or laptop into a thin client or zero client device. It is fast, secure and can be customised to provide a bespoke solution to meet the hardware or specific requirements of an organisation. It provides security at the endpoint, rather than relying on the server to detect, prevent and monitor devices and data coming into and leaving the network. For full details please go to

Windows 8 version of DISK Protect
The Windows 8 version of Becrypt’s DISK Protect significantly extends the range of touch-screen tablets that are now able to benefit from Becrypt’s full disk encryption solution. The tablet solution includes on-screen, touch friendly pre-boot authentication, enabling users to login/authenticate before the main operating system is booted, and avoids the issue of authenticating after a machine may already be compromised. The Becrypt range
Becrypt’s range of solutions includes endpoint security, secure remote working and enterprise security, delivered through the Becrypt Enterprise Manager.

Full disk encryption
DISK Protect is an assured full disk encryption solutions securing data on desktop and laptop PCs from theft and loss.

Tablet encryption
Becrypt’s DISK Protect full disk encryption software has been developed to protect all information and data stored on tablet devices. It provides an onscreen touch keyboard to allow authentication without the need to attach an external keyboard.

Access point security
Trusted Client is a self-contained environment that allows employees to securely connect to an organisation’s network from unmanaged machines.

Data leakage prevention
Connect Protect and Media Client are endpoint control solutions that enable organisations to control the use of ‘plug-and-play’ devices and prevent data leakage.
