it highlights confidence placed in fixed wireless access as a realistic alternative for ‘traditional’ methods of Superfast Broadband delivery

On top of its main roll out of superfast broadband, the onlincolnshire project is also bringing the latest in broadband technology to two rural parts of the county.

Lincoln firm AB Internet has been chosen for two pilot projects that will make faster broadband available sooner in two areas on the east coast. They will use fixed wireless technology to improve the current broadband offering to a level that is over twice the current national average.

Councillor Kelly Smith, Executive Member for Finance and HR, said:
“These pilot projects will make sure these rural areas aren’t left behind as we move into the digital age. Fast reliable broadband isn’t a luxury – it's vital to business growth, to local residents wanting to access online services, and children downloading learning materials. We’d initially thought we’d only be able to fund one pilot, so the fact that we’re going to be able to help two areas is fantastic news..”

AB Internet will offer customers a range of packages, from a cost-conscious 2Mb through to a superfast 50Mb internet service. This means customers can choose the one that best fits their individual needs.

Darren Round, Managing Director of AB Internet, added: “This project is absolutely groundbreaking, not only does it show a clear endorsement of AB Internet’s track record of transforming rural areas, but it highlights confidence placed in fixed wireless access as a realistic alternative for ‘traditional’ methods of Superfast Broadband delivery. Perhaps most importantly, it’s a clear message to residents in these areas that the council has listened, and is delivering on promises to help transform their broadband lives.”

The pilot projects have been made possible thanks to £300,000 from the European Regional Development Fund, and should be completed in the autumn.
