Brands need to know right away, not the next day, when they are the subject of media attention
LONDON, April 10, 2013 – Gorkana Group has dramatically enhanced the quantity and speed of TV and radio content included in their media monitoring service through an agreement with broadcast intelligence leader Critical Mention Inc., the two companies announced today.
The agreement to provide Gorkana subscribers with near real-time broadcast content that includes 24/7 coverage of all programming genres – not just select news shows -- marks the first UK deal for Critical Mention, the leading provider of TV and radio monitoring in North America.
“Brands need to know right away, not the next day, when they are the subject of media attention,” said Dave Armon, president of Critical Mention. “Critical Mention’s European data centre is ingesting content from across the UK and we’re thrilled to have Gorkana Group as our first media monitoring partner in the region.”
Gorkana Group formed in 2010 with the combination of three individual service brands: Gorkana, Durrants and Metrica. Headquartered in London, the firm offers media monitoring, media database and PR measurement services to thousands of organisations.
Transcripts of select television and radio broadcasts have long been included in the Gorkana platform, but the human-edited transcripts took hours to post and client access to specific video segments was often delayed.
The relationship with Critical Mention will provide Gorkana’s clients with 24/7 coverage of all programming on the main channels previously monitored, a significant increase from the UK standard of monitoring a few select news programs during the day.
Through a technology integration with Critical Mention’s API, Gorkana subscribers may now search TV subtitles and speech-to-text files for radio content within minutes of broadcast. Clients with saved alerts will receive emails containing text and playable audio and video, and coverage may be viewed, edited, downloaded and shared by users of the Critical Mention WordPlay player integrated into the Gorkana service.
“Gorkana embraces innovation and continuously seeks technology and content that will improve the productivity and satisfaction of our clients,” said Jeremy Thompson, chief executive of Gorkana Group. “We feel Critical Mention shares our values and has enabled us to bring a significant broadcast content and functionality upgrade to the UK monitoring marketplace.”
