SYHA saved £200,000

Peak-Ryzex help South Yorkshire Housing Association save £200,000 with real-time mobility solution

Within one year of deployment the not-for-profit housing provider completes 1,100 extra jobs increasing fix-time rates and supporting its commitment to putting customers first

Chippenham, UK – (April 24th, 2013) - Mobility expert Peak-Ryzex has helped South Yorkshire Housing Association (SYHA) make significant savings in both time and money over the last year. By replacing its labour-intensive paper-based scheduling service with an integrated mobile solution, the responsive repairs team has completed 1,100 extra jobs and delivered savings in excess of £200,000. The new solution has supported the team’s health and safety policy and is also supporting SYHA’s commitment to providing customers with a responsive and professional service.

Previously, SYHA’s responsive repairs team used a paper-based scheduling process for managing all property maintenance and repairs jobs. This was time consuming and lead to a lot of duplicated work. It also required the team’s 15 operatives to go to the depot every morning to receive job information, wasting valuable time and resource.

Peak-Ryzex provided a range of mobility services for SYHA including consultation of device choice, device deployment through its ‘gold build’ service to ensure consistent device set up, a next day exchange service for devices and on-going maintenance.

The integrated mobile solution enables SYHA to schedule all jobs in real-time and can easily and quickly take into consideration any emergencies or changes to the workforce. Every morning the home maintenance team receive their scheduled jobs via their Motorola ES400 devices. Their daily job rota is optimised to take their home address into account, so they don’t waste time making unnecessarily long and convoluted journeys.

“We have built a reputation as an innovator, an organisation with a 'can do' philosophy and one that is not afraid to take a fresh look and try new ideas to meet the challenge of delivering quality local living for our customers. We realised that a full automated mobility solution could help support this philosophy,” explained Claire Sockett, systems development manager, SYHA.

“We have seen enormous benefit from the changeover. Not only have we saved significant amounts of money, which is vital as a not-for-profit organisation, but we have improved the efficiency of our workforce and most importantly, we have been able to provide our residents with a faster, more efficient service.”

“The increasing need for social housing has resulted in continual demands made on service efficiency and squeezed budgets,” said Damian Penney, Managing Director, Peak-Ryzex. “By equipping its responsive repairs team with the latest mobile technology, SYHA has managed to both increase levels of service whilst making substantial cost savings.

“The move to a fully automated mobile solution can be a daunting prospect for many organisations. Peak-Ryzex takes a holistic approach and works closely with its customers at every stage from consultation to deployment and on-going maintenance ensuring a smooth mobility roll-out, employee buy-in and an overall successful deployment.”

About SYHA:

In 1972, after watching the BBC drama Cathy Come Home, our founder John Belcher began the then named Sheffield Family Housing Association; helping young homeless families in Sheffield.
Over forty years later we’re still providing quality local living; retrofitting, renovating, designing & building homes throughout the city region but the work we do is now more than housing; 60% of our work is providing care & support, helping vulnerable people to remain independent.

• Today, SYHA manage 6,224 homes across South Yorkshire.
• SYHA’s personalised care services currently support over 1,500 clients each year to achieve the outcomes they want.
• Last year alone over 947 people were supported to move on from SYHA services to more independent lives.
• SYHA’s passion for sustainability is prominent, in both their new developments, and retroFiTs to older properties; in 2011 they invested over £2m to fit photo voltaics to 10% of their older properties.
• SYHA’s work today is only possible due to their 422 members of staff, their 12 non-executive directors, their partners and shareholders.
