Planview® is launching a major new release of its portfolio management application, driven by the accelerated growth of its cloud offering and the ongoing expansion of portfolio management as an enterprise-wide discipline. The centrepiece of Planview Enterprise 11 is a newly designed user experience (UX) that elegantly adjusts navigation from novice to experts and embeds analytics and reporting right where users need them. As a result, companies will make better, faster decisions to more efficiently connect enterprise-wide strategic planning with execution, furthering business goals while making the best use of constrained resources.

"With a 175 percent year-on-year growth in our SaaS bookings and an increasing mix of IT and line-of-business users, the time is right for a new Planview Enterprise," said Patrick Tickle, executive vice president of products for Planview. "We've spun the conventional UX model 180 degrees from a functional focus to a business metric focus. This new model will accelerate portfolio insight and enable organisations to better optimise their resource capacity. New User Experience Supports Expanded Use of Portfolio Management

Planview worked with more than 100 customers during an 18-month design and development process, incorporating in excess of 1,000 hours of feedback and usability testing into the new UX. Planview designed the UX to meet the needs of organisations at any stage of maturity as well as the growing number of line-of-business users. The new UX creates a common interaction across all portfolios ‒‒ such as investments, projects, products, applications, and services ‒‒ making the solution easier to deploy across company departments and roll up data into cross-enterprise analytics. The product includes enhanced configurability by user roles, intuitive navigation, and new search and filtering capabilities.

Embedded Decision Making in the User Experience

Users of all types, including IT, executive, and line-of-business will benefit from a new at-a-glance "ribbon" on main landing pages. This ribbon gives users access to interactive tiles that provide highly visual, direct access to the metrics, notifications, and analytics that are critical to any portfolio. The ribbon and associated tiles can be configured by portfolio type and user to provide tailored, line-of-sight access to the business drivers for any portfolio. This new ribbon also includes an integrated visualisation capability that allows end users to create charts and graphs of real-time data within the UX.

Bringing Big Data to Portfolio Management

Planview continues to deliver innovation in analytics by being the first to introduce a big data, in-memory analytics solution to the portfolio management market. In-memory technology supports large portfolio data sets for dramatic improvements in interactivity and performance, enabling customers to unlock new levels of insight into investment results and resource utilisation. In addition, new interactive visualisations using HTML5 provide users with improved trending, predictive analytics, and heat maps.

Additional Enhancements Include

• New Mobile Timesheet: New mobile-enabled timesheet supported on iPhone®, Android®, and Blackberry® 10 devices
• Improved Demand Management: Companies now have more flexibility to capture and manage broader classes of requests, including product enhancements and support tickets
• Enhanced Product Roadmapping: New features include baselining of roadmaps and ad-hoc milestone tracking to ease migration from manual road maps to an enterprise system
• Customer-Driven Enhancements: More than 75 specific customer-driven enhancements are included in the release across a broad range of functional areas
Gartner* reported in its April 26, 2013, research note titled Market Share Analysis: Project and Portfolio Management Software, Worldwide, 2012, that worldwide project and portfolio management (PPM) software revenue grew 11 percent in 2012. In that report, Gartner stated that: "Applications for project, program, portfolio and resource management boost team performance and enable IT management and others to access near-real-time data via dashboards for prioritisation and quick decision making."
