Ruth Simmons, CEO of Soundlounge, has been chosen in recognition of her personal contribution to society to join 400 women from all walks of life at the Women of the Year Lunch. This year’s event will take place on Monday 14 October 2013 at the InterContinental London Park Lane Hotel.
The Women of the Year Lunch and Awards ceremony honours women’s personal achievements. It brings together more than 400 extraordinary women from all walks of life, all of whom have achieved something of significance. Each guest is regarded as a ‘Woman of the Year’ and represents not only herself, but the millions of extraordinary women who make a difference every day.
Ruth is attending in celebration of her work as Chief Executive of Soundlounge, the leading music licensing consultancy, and her contribution to the British music licensing scene for more than three decades.
Ruth says, ‘I am of course thrilled and honoured to be invited to such a prestigious Award ceremony along with so many talented and extraordinary women from so many walks of life. And it will be fascinating to see who the judges decide to choose as winners this year.’
Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, President of Women of the Year, said: “The remarkable thing about this lunch is that it’s not just about celebrity or success. It’s about seeing the exceptional in unusual places, recognizing women not only for their drive, ambition and tenacity, but for seeing a need and finding a way to make a difference. For taking the hard knocks, surviving them, and sticking at it.
“These women are role models. Their courage is breathtaking and they reaffirm our faith in the human condition by showing us that, wherever you are, people do good things for each other.”
At the Lunch, special awards will be presented to exceptional women who have each proved an inspiration to others through their courage, selflessness and dedication. The winners are selected by a judging panel made up of prominent female figures in media, business and the charity sector.
Previous Women of the Year winners include:
• 2012 Team GB Olympic & Paralympic women medallists
• Doreen Lawrence, campaigner for justice following the murder of her son Stephen in 1993

For more than 30 years, Ruth Simmons has been finding ways to make music work better in the branding and marketing arena - she calls it 'putting science into the art of music.'
As founder of one of the first companies in music industry to address the complexities of licensing copyright music for advertising, Ruth was also the first to pose what now seems an obvious question: ‘ you know what your brand looks like - but do you know what it sounds like?’
Thanks to Ruth’s pioneering in brand sound, it is now possible to measure the effectiveness of music and brand fit in relation to consumer response, to reconcile business needs with artistic creativity, and to give clients greater insight into their own brands.
