reallymoving.com's interactive move maps illustrate the patterns of home moves around the UK

Reallymoving.com – the UK’s leading comparison site for home movers - announces the launch of its unique new interactive move maps, which illustrate the patterns of home moves around the UK.
Move Maps
Based on 122,000 moves in the 12 months to August 2013, reallymoving.com has created 4 interactive maps:

Moves to: shows which postcode areas people come from when moving to each UK postcode area.

For example, for people moving to the York postcode area (YO), 54% are moving form an address already in YO, 3.3% from Hull (HU), 2.3% from Doncaster (DN), 2.3% from Wakefield (WF), 4.0% from Leeds (LS) and 3.5% from Bradford (BD).

Moves from: shows which postcode areas people move to when moving from each postcode area

For example, for people moving from the Cambridge (CB) postcode area, 49% are moving to another address within CB, 7.0% are moving to Peterborough (PE), 1.7% moving to Norwich (NR), 4.0% to Ipswich (IP), 2.9% to Colchester (CO), 1.7% to Chelmsford (CM) and 3.8% to Stevenage (SG).

Area attractiveness: shows which postcodes have a higher number of people moving to it than from it.

The maps show that the extremes of the UK are the most popular: the Outer Hebrides has the highest ratio of moves-to compared to moves-from (245%), but Kirkwall in North East Scotland (148%) and Truro in the far South West of England (142%) are also very ‘attractive’.

Area stickiness: shows what proportion of movers from each postcodes choose to stay in that postcode

The maps show that the Shetlands are very ‘sticky’ (84% of moves from addresses in the Shetlands stay within the area), and that Northern Ireland (74%) and Northumberland (70%) are also very high.

Rob Houghton, founder & a Director of reallymoving.com commented: “we hope people will find these maps informative, as well as fun to explore. Having helped over 1,000,000 people move home in the UK, we have some unique insights into where people move to and from. These maps, based on the 122,000 registrations on reallymoving.com between Aug 2012 & Aug 2013, bring that information to life.”

Reallymoving.com works with over 500 removals firms, conveyancing solicitors and Chartered Surveyors. It is the leading price comparison website for moving home services; in August 2013 15,000 movers used reallymoving.com to find quality rated solicitors, surveyors or removals firms.
