Taxi app iCabz is going the extra mile today to support National Personal Safety Day by donating £1 for every download to the organisers of the initiative, the Suzy Lamplugh Trust.

The makers of the new app hope to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity over the course of the day.

The app, which provides users with a simple, secure and speedy means of hailing a local taxi, contains a number of built-in safety features and is currently being piloted in Birmingham ahead of its national launch.

It adheres strictly to the recommendations within the Suzy Lamplugh Trust’s guidelines for taxi apps, and includes innovative safety features such as the facility for friends and family to view your journey, driver identification photos and even a panic button for drivers who feel threatened.

Managing Director, Dee Ladva, said his team had consulted with the Suzy Lamplugh Trust to ensure the iCabz app meets the utmost safety criteria.

“We have worked hard to ensure that our app represents a safe solution for passengers who need a taxi but don’t know a local number, or simply don’t want to waste time and money making a phonecall,” said Mr Ladva.

“We’re therefore very proud to demonstrate our dedication to personal safety by supporting the Suzy Lamplugh Trust with a £1 donation for every app download on 14th October.”

The free iCabz app is available to download for Apple, Android and Windows smartphones. It works by matching the user’s location to the nearest available taxi, allowing people to hail a cab in just a few seconds.
