Kensington & Chelsea magazine exclusively speak to Joanna Lumley on her new charitable ventures, her status as a national treasure and kissing Leonardo DiCaprio.

Annabel Harrison, editor of Kensington & Chelsea magazine, part of the Runwild Media Group portfolio speaks exclusively to the ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ Joanna Lumley on her artistic involvement in ‘Stars Rocking’, the auction taking place in November of 12 hand-decorated, designed and signed Stevenson Brothers rocking horses for CHIVA Africa (Children’s HIV Association).
“The horses are ravishing!” Joanna exclaims “Giving should be gorgeous; you should look forward to it. The idea of people spending, like a kicking horse, to get one of these horses makes me so happy”.
Having spent three days painting “Sally”, a slightly Patsy-esque rocking horse, complete with long blonde mane, she mentions through a wide smile how she would “sit rocking on it in the drawing room whilst having a cocktail and a smoke”.
It is little surprise that Lumley’s contribution is signed “Rock on, sweetie! Love from Joanna”.
Joanna, known for her involvement with international causes such as the Gurkha Justice Campaign has an informed opinion about charitable giving “I like doing stuff that might make the world better. If I can do something, I’ll do it”.
She is quick to praise the likes of Bob Geldof who has in her words “rocked the world and made it cool to do stuff for charity”.
Also, lavished with Lumley’s praise is none other than Hollywood superstar, Leonardo DiCaprio with whom she starred in martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street out next month
“I’ve admired DiCaprio since he started acting. He’s a darling person and a proper actor. I so didn’t want him to be a brat and he so wasn’t. I lied slightly, though, and said that we had to do the kissing scene 27 times so he could get the hang of it!”
It’s a combination of her unquestionable acting talent and generous nature that has seen her labelled ‘a national treasure’.
“I was so touched when I first heard it. It becomes a term of endearment for people who’ve been around for a long time and I’ve been around for a LONG time”.
So what is next in the pipeline for Joanna Lumley? More philanthropic ventures of course, alongside a potential travel series which would be “somewhere colossal and pretty fab”.
However, a career in politics is not on the cards “I don’t want to go into politics; it’s cumbersome” She states.
