As a child, I dreamt of becoming an author but when I was diagnosed, the dream changed to just being healthy. Now I'm finally moving ahead with both.
British author, Rosen Trevithick, is set to reach a quarter of a million book sales and free downloads when she releases her new titles in November. Suffering from rapid cycling bipolar disorder, Rosen had not been capable of paid employment for over ten years.
ABOUT ROSEN TREVITHICK
- Aged 34
- From Truro, Cornwall
- Now lives in Exeter, Devon
- Writes fiction for children and adults
ABOUT RETURNING TO WORK
For many years, Rosen thought she’d never be able to work. However, after volunteering part time for her local Citizen’s Advice Bureau, her confidence improved and she began to seek suitable paid work.
She already enjoyed writing as a hobby and decided to publish her books online ‘just to see what happened’. She enlisted the support of Workways, an Exeter-based NHS organisation that helps people with mental health problems find and sustain employment, and discovered she could self-publish under the Supported Permitted Work scheme. While in her first year, she sold fewer than 100 books, in January 2012, her sales shot up.
Nearly two years later, her download count has reached over 244,500, she has topped the Amazon Kindle humorous fiction chart and her work is used to inspire creative writing in schools.
ABOUT ROSEN'S NEW RELEASES
- Seesaw – Volume II
- Trolls on Ice
- The First Trollogy
Aimed at adults, Rosen’s Seesaw collections contain a mixture of psychological thrillers and light hearted comedies, this contrast reflecting the extremes of the condition from which Rosen suffers. Volume II includes the hit novella ‘My Granny Writes Erotica’.
Trolls on Ice will be the third instalment in Rosen’s Smelly Troll series, a set of humorous adventure stories aimed at children aged 7-10. The troll books are beautifully illustrated by artist, Katie W. Stewart.
The First Trollogy contains Smelly Trolls books 1-3 in one ‘snotacular’ volume, intended to make the series even more appealing to gifted readers.
From November 30th, Paperback and Kindle editions will be available at Amazon, priced from 1.99 GBP.
Rosen states that the success of her books has changed her life. “Bipolar disorder is a hard-hitting illness and you can end up believing that your existence is pointless. As a child, I dreamt of becoming an author but when I was diagnosed, the dream changed to just being healthy. Now I'm finally moving ahead with both.”
