IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Industrial and Financial Systems (IFS
AB), the world's fastest-growing enterprise applications
vendor, have signed a global strategic alliance agreement to
add DB2 support to IFS applications. The companies together
anticipate the agreement will grow their businesses by more
than $300 million U.S. dollars over three years.

IBM will collaborate with IFS to define, build and execute
joint marketing activities which will generate sales of IFS
Applications licenses. Additionally, IBM will provide the
required hardware, database licenses and expert level
consultancy resources to add DB2 support to IFS

us to remain the fastest-growing supplier of enterprise
applications for over two years is to gradually add leading
components and technology to IFS Applications, as we see
market demand emerge. Through this partnership with IBM, we
together will extend IFS Applications reach into traditional
IBM accounts as well as giving IFS customers the freedom to
choose DB2 and embedding a subset of the WebSphere Family
components into IFS Applications," commented Michael Hallén,
president of IFS R&D. He continued, "the first set of IFS
Applications components containing DB2 support, will be
released during the first half of 2001."

The collaboration has already started in terms of joint
marketing and development activities in the Service
Management sector, as well as database training and
development at IFS R&D's Special Projects laboratory in
Sweden. The first IFS component with full DB2 support will
be released during the first quarter of 2001.
