A lot of people have been affected by these closures

National Numbers, one of the oldest dealers of number plates in the country, have introduced new and improved services to fill the gap left by local DVLA office closures.

‘A lot of people have been affected by these closures, ourselves and our customers included’ said National Numbers Chairman, Eric Craggs.

‘We hope these changes to our services will help people get over the changes with the DVLA.’

The new services include a new Document Checking Service and DVLA Information Line, as well as improvements to existing services such as vehicle transfers and certificate extensions.

Document Checking Services

The “Document Checking Service” (DCS) will aim to speed up the process and avoid unnecessary delays for customers looking to transfer, extend or amend number plate applications.

‘Many of our customers are finding a much longer waiting time than they expect when they send documents to DVLA, Swansea,’ said Susan Craggs, Admin Manager at National Numbers.

‘We have introduced this service to combat this, as well as the many inconveniences caused by the closures.’

All documents sent to the DVLA will be handled by the Central Processing Unit, which normally takes 2-3 weeks, depending on workload. Applications though can still be “kicked out” and sent back unfinished, which would mean having to start again.

‘There are several reasons why DVLA might send documents might be returned to customers,’ explains Susan Craggs.

‘It used to be the case that local offices could help the public get their documents correct before they were sent to avoid exactly this.’

DVLA Information Line

The proposed “DVLA Information Line” will allow National Numbers to provide advice to the general public at the cost of a phone call.

‘Local offices were a great place to get advice because of their friendly, professional staff,’ said Eric Craggs.

‘We want National Numbers to fill this gap and be a resource to people who want commitment free advice.’

All 39 of the DVLA’s local offices will be closed by December 13th, resulting in hundreds of job losses across the country .

National Numbers even plans to add some of the staff members of their local office in Stockton, one of two offices serving the North East region, to their admin team.

‘Having dealt with the staff at the Stockton office we know how knowledgeable and helpful they are,’ continued Eric.

‘They will be a welcome addition to the National Numbers team and the foundation to the DVLA Information Line.’
