The study, Gambling Participation: Activities and Modes of Access, commissioned by the Gambling Commission and conducted by ICM Research, surveyed respondents about gambling participation over a 4 week period during June 2013. One particular focus of the research was looking at how people gamble- finding that the majority of users gamble either in person or online exclusively, rarely participating in both. The survey also considered how often respondents were spending money on gambling activities. Of those playing casino games online, the most popular frequency bracket was “once per month, less than once per week” at 45%, with “2 + days per week” close behind with 41%. The least popular category was “once per week” at just 4%.

Best known for their extensive range of casino games online, the team at Super Casino were naturally interested to see how gambling participation differed online between different forms of activity, including lottery, bingo, sports betting as well as casino games. A representative from the firm shares their thoughts on the findings.

“Probably the most interesting result from this latest research is that most people either gamble online or in person but are unlikely to partake in both. As smartphones and tablets become more commonplace and mobile roulette games, slots and poker become more available, perhaps this will change. We’re looking forward to reviewing the next set of research and comparing the findings.”

The next publication from the partnership is expected to include average figures up to September 2013.
