League of Wales winners take on Estonian champions July 12th

Total Network Solutions (TNS) FC, the football team sponsored by the major supplier of voice and data communications products and services of the same name, open their 2000/01 European Champions’ League account with a new four-figure sponsorship deal from communications giant Cable & Wireless.

Cable & Wireless’ Alliance and Partner Channel is initially sponsoring this first round game and is keen to support the club throughout the campaign. A Cable & Wireless spokesperson said, "We have a long standing and highly successful partnership with Total Network Solutions and we are now delighted to have the opportunity to share in the success of their championship winning football team. The larger teams in England always overshadow Welsh football and we admire Total Network Solutions for their work in raising the profile of both their team and Welsh football in general."

The Llansantffraid-based League of Wales football club is playing Levardia Maardu of Estonia at Wrexham at 7.30pm on Wednesday July 12th. Total Network Solutions FC - which qualified for the Champions League by virtue of winning the Welsh League in the 1999/2000 season is just two games away from meeting some of the leading clubs in Europe. If it wins the two-leg tie, its next opposition will be from the Ukraine.

According to Mike Harris, managing director of Total Network Solutions the new sponsorship strengthens an existing arrangement between the two firms.

"We already have a very strong business relationship with Cable & Wireless, and the company has recognised that supporting a championship winning football team is excellent for everyone concerned.

The village club changed its name from Llansantffraid to TNS following a long-term sponsorship deal with Total Network Solutions in 1997. Whilst agreeing that it is an unusual situation, Harris believes that the deal is working well.

"We are passionate about Welsh football," says Harris. "It just doesn’t get the exposure that it deserves. Our relationship has allowed us to bring mainstream sponsorship money to this championship winning Welsh football team. TNS might be a very small club, but with their journey into Europe they’ve got big ideas. This is a chance for the company the club and Welsh football in general to gain maximum exposure across Europe."
