Introducing The Duchess of Delhi: A restaurant and bar specialising in South Asian cuisine
Chaat!, the UK’s first spicy food and travel magazine, has just opened the doors to its very own restaurant in the heart of Cardiff Bay, Wales. Along with their publisher, the British Curry Club, the Chaat! team designed a paradise for spicy food lovers to indulge in the opulence of India. The restaurant is undertaking a soft opening before its official launch in January.

The Duchess of Delhi is no ordinary ‘curry house.’ It will be offering an exclusive seasonal menu with recipes provided by top chefs and celebrities. This menu will feature dishes from prestigious individuals such as Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines, author Ivor Peters, and consultant and author Mridula Baljekar, which will be re-created in the Duchess of Delhi kitchen. Food of a high quality is imperative when dining out, and with nothing but freshly handmade dishes, the Duchess of Delhi has this down to a tea.

The restaurant’s inception was born from a desire to create a boutique restaurant and bar to reflect on the themes and ethos within Chaat! Magazine. The Duchess of Delhi’s menu celebrates the signature delights from various parts of South East Asia, while emulating the diversity of tastes and cultures through the restaurant’s décor and menu.
When drawing up the plans for the restaurant, the creators wanted not only a beautiful design, but to include all of the conveniences you’d have in your own home. They’ve therefore created a unique ‘interiors menu’ as well as a food menu, which showcases the great companies that helped them to build a calming and stylish atmosphere. The opulent wallpaper has been provided by visionary decorating company, Rabart (, whilst genuine hand-embroidered Indian cushions from Anandi and Me ( add a touch of homely luxury to the surroundings.

Designers and artists from around the globe helped the team to create a classic and authentic regal atmosphere, providing a warming surrounding by reflecting on the rich heritage of the Rajas and Mughals of India.

Perfect for fine-dining in a sleek yet inviting environment, the downstairs restaurant will provide a whole host of homemade desserts, as well as a range of after dinner board games, courtesy of Master’s Traditional Games ( The restaurant contains three different areas, reflective of the various aspects of the rich Mughal culture. The upstairs floored seating area, the Nawabs Lounge, is an ideal place to relax and continue your evening after a meal, or just to enjoy a few drinks and games in vibrant and sumptuous surroundings.


>The restaurant overlooks the iconic Roald Dahl Plass, famed for the filming of TV favourites, Torchwood and Doctor Who, the restaurant is located within walking distance from the Wales Millennium Centre, the Doctor Who Experience and the Cardiff Bay Marina, as well as being a mere 10 minutes from Cardiff City Centre.
