Hyundai invests £370k in OneWorld to improve supply chain performance

J.D. Edwards today announced it has won a contract worth in excess of £370k from Hyundai Car (UK) Ltd, to provide its OneWorld solution for improved supply chain performance and information across Hyundai's UK dealer network. Hyundai Car (UK) has purchased the financial, distribution, manufacturing and customer service management modules. The solution will be implemented at the company's High Wycombe headquarters and will improve the accuracy of the car supply chain from import to the dealer network and on to the final customer.

J.D. Edwards' OneWorld will replace an existing software system based on Global software. The existing solution is made up of components that served different areas of the business separately. No common information was shared across divisions and the organisation felt its reporting and business structure suffered due to lack of integration. OneWorld will enable the company to share a unified interface throughout the network, providing real-time information coupled with a user-friendly interface. OneWorld will be running on an IBM AS/400 platform.

OneWorld was selected by Hyundai Car (UK) as part of a new initiative to improve information flow across the Hyundai UK supply chain network, from its import centre at Tilbury, Essex through to its dealer network and end-customers. OneWorld will allow Hyundai dealers to go on-line from their showrooms and provide their customers and partners with up to the minute information on vehicle location.

OneWorld's implementation lays the foundations of a complete renewal of Hyundai's internal systems and processes, which will drive its strategy of becoming an e-business. Hyundai Car (UK) is confident that its implementation of OneWorld will ensure it leads its competition in providing integrated IT solutions to its dealer network.

"The ever growing volume of orders we are receiving here in the UK mean it is vital we have a solution that can provide us with real-time information so that we can deliver to both our showrooms and customers in turn. Using OneWorld dealers will be able to locate exactly where a vehicle is at any time and will therefore be able to give precise information on delivery expectations. The on-line and flexible nature of the solution will provide field force with accurate information with which to inform dealers and their customers," said Don Aitkenhead, systems director. "We see OneWorld as a vital business tool, one that will enable Hyundai to provide the best information and service to both its dealers and customers."

The system is expected to go live early in 2001, and once up and running Hyundai will roll the solution out from its head office to its 160 dealers across the UK.

"J.D. Edwards is delighted to be involved with Hyundai Car (UK) Ltd as it looks forward to expansion on a large scale. The agility of OneWorld will allow Hyundai to keep its dealers and customers informed with up to date location information on the Internet. OneWorld provides a robust framework which will be able to expand with Hyundai as it faces increasing customer demand and related increase in numbers of dealers," concludes Trevor Salomon, marketing director, J.D. Edwards, UK.
