International removals company Interdean have shared their thoughts after a new database has revealed the countries around the world with the most nutritional, affordable, and healthy diet.

With food just one of the aspects considered by expats when moving overseas, global charity Oxfam have compiled a database which ranks 125 worldwide countries according to the nation’s diet and food, Expat Forum reports. Using data on food’s affordability, the quality of food, and food-related health problems such as obesity and diabetes, the Netherlands received first place this year while France and Switzerland were pushed back into second place. European countries account for the top 20, with the exception of Australia at number eight, while New Zealand, Japan, US, Canada, and Brazil are found further down the list.

Investigating the affordability of food, the charity discovered that while the UK is placed 20th, the US has one of the cheapest and most stable priced food in the world. The database also reveals that Iceland receives a perfect mark for its food’s quality based on safe water and nutritional diversity, yet was moved down to 13th placed due to diabetes and obesity rates in the country.

As a firm with more than fifty years’ experience helping expats move overseas, the team of experts at Interdean take an interest in research which could help expats decide their new home location. A representative for the company took the opportunity to discuss the results found in the index:

“There are many factors expats consider when they’re looking to move overseas and while some countries are known for their cuisine, discovering more about a country’s food can be important when moving abroad. While job opportunities, housing, and lifestyle can be vital, aspects such as food can also be important for expats. Food’s affordability and quality can be an essential consideration and, while it may not be the deciding factor for expats, this information can prove useful to those looking to move abroad.”
