Nolobi bikes have teamed up with pop-up competition StreetVelodrome™ to give the average Janet or Joe a chance to compete in a televised race.

Ever fancied competing in a Velodrome track race? A roaring crowd driving you onward like a salivating pack of hell hounds; the taste of victory so tantalisingly that time stops dead; the acclaim, the fame, the thump, thump, thump of your heart as it beats against your limits? All televised on Channel 4 for the masses to worship in your glorious wake?

Well now you can.

Nolobi bikes have teamed up with pop-up competition StreetVelodrome™ to give the average Janet or Joe a chance to compete in a televised race.

So what’s StreetVelodrome?

‘A pop up cycle event which turns any public space into heart-pounding theatre of cycling action’. Compete in thrilling 60 second pursuit sprints on your path to becoming the fastest and the best.

Sky Sports reporter and host of the Offsiderule podcast Kait Borsay presents the first StreetVelodrome Series exhibition event, to be held at Manchester Bike & Tri Show 8th / 9th March 2014. Nolobi.com® are providing the bikes, the colour – and the Grease Monkey to make sure things go smoothy.

At each round Amateur Riders first get a quick coaching session, before having to qualify. And Pro Riders are preselected by each of the teams to represent them for each round of the Series.

And why are we backing them to the hilt?

In the words of some Copywriter employed by the Olympics, “The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.”

Whilst it reads less ‘inspirational call to arms’ than ‘Victorian Legal clause’, it’s Bang Right. And that’s where StreetVelodrome really caught our interest. The event gives both women and men’s events equal billing and mixes amteur and pro/celebrity riders. The playing field is further level because you’ll all be riding a Nolobi. That’s right, from Chris Hoy (who won’t be there) to Crispin Duckworth of Manchester rd, Manchester (who might exist?), the only difference between you will be raw talent, sheer athleticism and a little bit of luck.

A great idea

The TV series ‘plans to encourage and inspire 14 to 25 year olds to take up regular sport as well as providing an equal platform for both women’s as well as men’s cycle sport’. It’s an ambitious mission statement, but a good one.

It’s as Team GB Performance Director supremo Sir David Brailsford said when asked, “Great idea!”. Clearly a man who tells it like it is.

We’re delighted to be able to do our bit whilst simultaneously illustrating that you don’t have to spend a fortune to enjoy a quality Ride.

And if you can’t make it to the race, then you can catch the Televised Series from sometime in April.
