Programmers using Rational Rose visual modeling software can easily
incorporate SonicMQ internet messaging

Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), has announced that Passage
Software has integrated Progress’® SonicMQ? internet messaging server
with Passage’s UML Factory? development tool product line. The support
for SonicMQ will allow developers using the popular Rational Rose Java
visual modeling software to easily incorporate SonicMQ’s application
communications capabilities into the e-business applications they build.

"Application developers frequently use Rational Rose to extend
enterprise workflow to accelerate B2B business processes," said Steve
Garone, an IDC vice president. "Having a high performing JMS product
such as SonicMQ could be extremely useful in expediting and guaranteeing
application-to-application message delivery."

"The integration of SonicMQ with UML Factory is a natural extension of
the model-driven development approach many companies are successfully
using to build and simplify large, distributed network-based
applications," said Don Reppert, chief operating officer at Passage
Software. "We are pleased to work with Progress to bring this important
capability to our customer base."

"Developers can for the first time visually integrate a scalable,
reliable and high-performing internet messaging server into their
architecture," said Dan Potter, director of internet technologies at
Progress Software. "Visual modeling is helping to greatly accelerate the
development of e-business applications. Given Rational Rose’s extensive
presence in the Fortune 500, SonicMQ’s marketplace reach is greatly
extended."

UML Factory facilitates the creation of scalable e-business applications
by guiding software developers through the processes of creating,
deploying and integrating code rapidly and consistently with other
components and technologies.

By integrating SonicMQ with UML Factory, developers will be able to
automatically generate Java-based SonicMQ classes from their
UML-Rational Rose models, allowing them to easily create and maintain
applications incorporating SonicMQ, thereby bringing SonicMQ-based
applications to market sooner.

SonicMQ is based on the Java Message Service (JMS) specification, part
of the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) standard from Sun, which
provides a common set of messaging concepts and programming strategies
enabling Java® developers to add enterprise message capabilities to
their applications. The first standalone JMS server from a major
software vendor, SonicMQ has been chosen by many leading e-commerce
infrastructure companies and has won numerous awards, including Java Pro
magazine’s Readers Choice Award for Best Java Messaging Tool, Best Java
Middleware from attendees at the SIGS Conference for Java Development,
and a World Class Award from Java Developer’s Journal.

UML Factory, Passage’s flagship product line, enables developers using
Rational Rose modeling software to transform their work from
documentation into complete software engineering initiatives. By adding
capabilities like automatic workgroup synchronisation, traceability,
object-oriented design wizards, and complete Java code generation and
testing, UML Factory is helping IT organisations reduce their total cost
of ownership and to extend the life span of their Internet-based
applications almost indefinitely.
