Experts in online and mobile gambling, SuperCasino, have responded to a new report claiming that half of mobile gambling revenue is generated by just 0.15% of players.

According to a report from mobile applications relationship marketing specialist, Swrve, just 0.15% of mobile gamers make up half of the monthly revenue generated from in-game purchases on mobile gambling platforms. This is the first monetization report from the company, and the findings suggest that, while the majority of players generate know in-game purchase revenue at all, a small number of players are valuable ‘high spenders’.

Hugh Reynolds, chief executive officer of Swrve, said: “What’s interesting is that while many consider that the freemium model to be successful, there is still surprisingly little data relating to exactly how consumers interact with freemium games. With access of tens of millions of players, we have aggregated data from across our system to finally lift the lid on what goes on after install – and where the money is made.”

Other findings include that 50% of revenue is taken from the top 10 of players who make purchases during play, 1.5% of active players made an in-app purchase during the month surveyed, 49% of players make only one purchase per month while 13% make five or more purchases per month, and 53% of players who purchase go on to buy again within two weeks.

SuperCasino, a leading online casino based in the UK, have responded to these findings, commenting on the surprisingly small segment of mobile gambling players who are generating the bulk of the revenue. A spokesperson for the company said:

“With mobile gambling becoming more and more popular among players, it’s interesting to look at the statistics related to the people engaging and making purchases through online gambling apps. The fact that the percentage of people who are so-called ‘big spenders’ is so small is very surprising, but only highlights the importance of retaining these players through increasingly inviting and engaging mobile gambling platforms.”
