iCommerce chooses Clarus eMarket to drive its ambitious e-commerce plans

READING, UK--July 19, 2000--Clarus Corporation (Nasdaq: CLRS), a leading business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce solution provider announces that iCommerce, the first B2B marketplace hub to be developed in Ireland, has chosen Clarus eMarket software to power its site. Under the multi-million pound contract, Clarus will provide and support the customisable trading platform and auction site within this new B2B marketplace.

iCommerce, a joint venture between Business & Finance Magazine, Comit Gruppe and the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland will launch the first phase of the marketplace later this month and aims to register 20,000 companies by the end of 2001. Strategic alliances with the Irish Exporters Association, The Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management and the Marketing Institute of Ireland will give iCommerce access to a further 100,000 companies. Amarach Consulting states that 11% of Irish companies are currently engaged in purchasing via B2B e-commerce platforms and at least 21% expect to be doing so within 12 months.

"After researching the best in the market, we found that Clarus had the most comprehensive understanding of the needs of market makers, buyers and sellers," said Ian Hyland, CEO of iCommerce. "iCommerce has a mission to spread the benefits of online trading, so we need to partner with a specialist whose business model encourages, not penalizes, a high volume of transactions."

Hyland also commented, "Because the Clarus architecture is so open and flexible, iCommerce will be able to develop products and services in the very rapid timescales that this market dictates. The company’s industry standing also strengthens our ambition to be the leading pan-European B2B marketplace for both customers and suppliers."

"We are delighted to be associated with such a dynamic and forward-thinking initiative. Consulting groups estimate that annual B2B transaction volume will reach up to $7 trillion over the next 4 years and eMarket is designed for this exact scenario of rapid growth," said David Edwards, managing director of Clarus EMEA.

iCommerce is the first European Clarus eMarket customer. Clarus announced the arrival of its EMEA operation in January this year and its first international agreement with Norway’s second largest financial group, Gjensidige NOR.
