Leaders in online and mobile gambling, SuperCasino, have responded to Democratic opposition to the proposed online gambling ban.

A new Republican bill seeking to prohibit online gambling has been opposed by a group of Democratic governors in the US, reports The Hill. The bill would reverse a previous ruling that led to three states, Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware, legalising gambling within state boundaries, and would prevent more states from regulating the practice in the future. Democratic Governors have opposed the bill on the basis that losses to revenue would have a hugely negative impact on funding for various government services.

The Democratic Governors Association wrote in a letter to Congressional leadership: "This bill has a severe and disastrous impact on state governments and is unworkable and it must be defeated… Some states have chosen not to allow and regulate gaming; and for the many states that do allow it, gaming and lotteries are critical to producing the revenue needed to fund important state and local governmental services, such as public education. [The bill] would financially crush state funded government services.”

Leading online gambling providers, SuperCasino, have responded to this letter and are in agreement with the sentiment that a ban for online gambling would be detrimental to government funding overall. A spokesperson for the company said:

“Online gambling revenue in states that have regulated the practice can be incredibly important in establishing additional funding for a variety of vital government services, and banning online gambling entirely would have a massive impact in this regard. An estimate of $20 billion in losses, which doesn’t include the loss of revenue from regulated internet gaming and lottery, is a big reason against online gambling being banned across the US, and demonstrates the importance of this revenue for services outside of the gambling industry.”
