Kainos AppCamp is a central part of the company’s commitment to nurture young talent for the digital industry

London and Belfast – April 7th, 2014 – Digital solutions company Kainos has announced the dates and locations for its popular summer AppCamp. Kainos AppCamp is a unique, free training event in which undergraduates in computing or related subjects are trained to develop apps for Apple iPhones or iPads by experienced Kainos software developers. This year, due to the success and popularity of previous events, Kainos plans to run AppCamp 2014 in two locations. In addition to Belfast, where the event has run for the last four years, AppCamp will be run in Bristol, with applicants invited from all over the UK.

Undergraduates studying Computer Science/ICT, Electronics Engineering, Software/Electronics hybrids, Physics and Design are among those Kainos is hoping to attract to this year’s contests. Successful applicants will be given hands-on training to create iPhone/iPad apps over an eight week period during the summer. During the first two weeks all participants will receive basic training in how to develop an app. At the end of this time, the ten best apps will be chosen by a panel of experts, and their creators will receive a MacBook and a further six weeks mentoring to bring their apps to the Apple AppStore.

Kainos AppCamp, launched in 2011, not only offers a fun and productive summer to bright students, but also creates value for them by bringing a variety of creative and successful apps to market. Last year's competition resulted in Mile Mapper, a running/cycling route generation app; Lip Reader, which teaches lip-reading to children; and LondonCC, which helps drivers manage London congestion charges.

Commenting on the launch of this year’s AppCamp, Tom Gray, CTO at Kainos, said: “The build-up to each AppCamp is tremendously exciting, and this year is particularly special because of the additional event in Bristol, where Kainos has recently opened a new office. Kainos AppCamp is a central part of the company’s commitment to nurture young talent for the digital industry, and we look forward to seeing what emerges from this summer’s activities.”

This year’s Belfast and Bristol AppCamp will start on the 30th June, and interested students can apply for a place by visiting http://www.appcamp.co.uk/sign-up/ or enquire by email to appcamp@kainos.com. More details about the format of the camp can be found at http://appcamp.co.uk/about-the-appcamp/.
