Providers of PRINCE2® training, ILX, has commented on the progress of projects associated with preparation for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Various cities in Brazil are reportedly behind schedule ahead of the 2014 World Cup, set to begin in the summer on June 12th, with Porto Alegre’s Beira Rio still in need of temporary structures to house incoming media and sponsors as well as still lacking other requirements set out by FIFA ahead of the event. With even the outside of the structure yet to be completed, time and budget issues are becoming more urgent by the day, and the management of the World Cup project at Beira Rio is being called into question.

Porto Alegre’s Mayor, Jose Fortuni, has warned that a lack of improvement in key legislation may result in the city having to “drop out.” This legislation is what allows certain tax exemptions for investing firms, which are even more important in light of the fact that public money is not permitted to be used on structures that won’t be used when the World Cup has finished. As Porto Alegre has warned, “there’s no plan B, or C nor Z.”

ILX, a leading provider of project management training courses, have commented on these delays and the concerns from both the Mayor and FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke, who has called the delays worrying. A spokesperson for the company said:

“When beginning a project of this size and scale, it is important to implement certain strategies beforehand, and stick to the project schedule throughout the duration of the entire project. This way, matters such as cost, periodic milestones and the roles of each team member can be agreed before things get underway and, with all of the details locked down and an effective schedule produced, the chances of things falling behind in such a huge way are significantly reduced. With PRINCE2 training courses from ILX, project managers can learn many effective ways of managing projects both large and small, as well as many other vital skills required of the role.”
