Online casino and gambling experts, Jackpot247, have responded to a new bill introduced to regulate online gambling in New York, USA.

A bill was introduced in New York by Republican State Senator John Bonacic on Friday 28th March, seeking to introduce legalisation of online poker across the state, reports Poker News. The bill will “amend the racing, pari-mutuel wagering and breeding law and the penal law, in relation to allowing certain interactive poker games,” and exclude poker from the state’s current definition of “contest of chance.”

The bill reads: “Poker in many instances has been defined as a game of skill and a New York Federal Court in U.S. v. DiCristina… assessed that under federal law poker was predominantly a game of skill. New York courts have interpreted New York law to apply a more rigorous test in identifying a ‘contest of chance’ than is applied by most states in this nation and the courts have found that where a contest pits the skill levels of the players against each other, those games are games of skill and not games of chance.

“Furthermore, the courts have not limited the legislature’s ability to determine that certain forms of poker should fall outside the general definition of gambling since those games are games of skill.”

Online gambling experts, Jackpot247, have responded to news of this new bill, celebrating one more state considering regulated online gambling. A spokesperson for the company said:

“Internet poker is starting to be regulated in more states across the US and, as is the case with countries such as the UK where online gambling is legalised, this can have a variety of benefits in terms of tax revenue and keeping players safer while participating. With internet poker being considered as a game of skill rather than of chance, it’s great that residents in New York, should the bill be passed, will soon be able to enjoy the game on regulated sites that generate revenue that can then be used by the government for funding.”
