Leaders in online and mobile gambling, SuperCasino, have commented on resistance from the National Conference of State Legislatures to a proposed nationwide online gambling ban.

Reacting to a proposed federal ban of online gambling, the National Conference of State Legislatures has protested these plans in a letter to lawmakers. They have theorised that the ban would result in federal government taking way the states’ role of deciding on the legality of online gambling individually, removing the potentially for millions of dollars in tax revenue in states across the country.

Oregon state Senator, Bruce Starr, and Nevada state Senator, Debbie Smith, said: “States have proven that they are effective regulators of the gambling industry and the proponents of this legislation fail to make a case that we have been negligent in our responsibilities to the industry and consumers.”

State lawmakers added: “This is the way it should work, each state making the decision that is best suited to the desires of its residents and not through a congressional mandate.”

Leading online gambling providers, SuperCasino, have responded to these reservations from state lawmakers, joining them in questioning the wisdom of banning online gambling across the US. A spokesperson for the company said:

“Putting the power to legalise or ban online gambling in the hands of each individual state offers greater choice to lawmakers to decide what is best for the residents of their state. Regulated internet gambling is also a fantastic way of generating tax revenue for governments that can then be pumped into worthy causes such as medical funding and schools, and removing this money could have a significant knock-on effect. Giving states the ability to decide for themselves seems like the smart option, with places such as Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey having already legalised the practice.”
