Following the news that the Canadian government has highlighted the dangers of fraudulent immigration agencies, the overseas relocation specialists at Interdean have offered their guidance for those contemplating becoming a Canadian resident.

Canada’s Citizen and Immigration Minister, Chris Alexander, spoke recently at the launch of a fraud prevention campaign, highlighting resource centres such as the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website, which allow applicants to find “bona fide immigration agents.” CIC has also been working with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) to produce a video raising awareness of authorised immigration representatives and the services they can provide.

Under Canadian law, only authorised immigration representatives are permitted to charge a fee to help someone apply for a visa to come to Canada. Bob Brack, CEO of the ICCRC, outlines the implications when this doesn’t happen, stating that “unauthorised representatives are not trained or regulated, and take money for services they cannot provide, which often leads to the refusal of applications that might otherwise be approved.”

Best known for their international removals to a variety of countries, including Canada, Interdean also provide free visa assistance and advice for their customers. A representative from the firm offers advice on how to avoid falling victim to this fraudulent activity.

“When it comes to something as life changing as moving country, it is important to make sure you do your research and trust your instincts. When you begin planning your move, be sure to only ever work with companies like ours who use legitimate and trusted channels. Failed visa attempts can be expensive not to mention time consuming.”
