The international moving specialists at Interdean have followed the progress of a campaign to end frozen pensions for British expats around the world.

The campaign is said to have received an encouraging response from the Prime Minister, who has expressed sympathy towards the plight of British expats whose state pensions have been frozen. British expats in a number of countries do not receive inflation-linked increases to their state pension each year. As a result some have had their payments frozen for decades and many are living off the bear minimum each week. Conservative MP for Thanet North, Sir Roger Gale was keen to point out that whilst David Cameron was sympathetic, no imminent change had been arranged.

Elsewhere, the campaign has seen strong support from the Australian and Canadian governments, both popular destinations for British expats. Campaigners were eager to express that they were not seeking payment of all the index- linked increases that pensioners had missed out on over the years, just a restoration of the full pension moving forwards.

International removals company, Interdean, performs overseas moves to a variety of worldwide destinations every year. They are often approached by those looking to retire abroad. As such, the team take a natural interest in issues surrounding expats retirees. A representative from the firm shares their thoughts on the matter.

“This is clearly an issue at the heart of many British expats so it’s good to see that action is being taken to ensure that those in authority are aware of the situation. When it comes to moving overseas, financial implications are always an important consideration, which is why we offer a full range of relocation services, including expense management services.”
