Procurement and supply chain consultancy Efficio have been highly commended in a major industry award scheme for their work on a project with Network Rail to accelerate construction of footbridges on their National Level Crossing Harm Reduction programme.
Network Rail have reduced public harm by 26 per cent since 2011, but with thousands of crossings in the UK they needed to improve delivery efficiency. Efficio developed and implemented an innovative procurement strategy by significantly reducing the cost of each bridge, enabling Network Rail to build more bridges, faster – with every bridge reducing the potential risk to the public.
The London-based procurement consultancy was highly commended in the Commercial Excellence category in the Management Consultancies Association’s (MCA) 2014 awards held in London last night (24 April) in a joint entry with Network Rail.
This is the second time Efficio has been successful in the Commercial Excellence category award, having won it last year for a project with Thames Water.
The award recognises work that helps clients to improve their value chains through procurement and supplier management or by creating innovative commercial models.
The awards ceremony in central London last night (24 April) heard how Network Rail engaged Efficio to implement a sourcing strategy to speed up its programme to build more level crossing footbridges.
Efficio's strategy reduced costs by 30 per cent, stretching the available budget to build significantly more footbridges and accelerating programme delivery from four years to 2 ½ years.
David McLoughlin, Finance and Commercial Director, Network Rail Infrastructure Projects, said: “Efficio helped us make a step-change in our level crossing footbridge programme, proving that smart sourcing can help save lives. The results speak for themselves - Efficio are a good example of consultants making a real difference”.
Efficio Vice President Toby Munyard, who led the project, said: "We are very proud to have been recognised in this highly respected industry award scheme again.
"But we are even more proud to have helped Network Rail save lives by building more level crossing footbridges faster. It was a great project with tangible results and we look forward to working with Network Rail again in the future."
