Simon Nott’s début self-published ‘Skint Mob! – Tales From The Betting Ring’ has been short-listed for this year’s British Sports Book Awards

Devon author’s début the self-published book ‘Skint Mob!’ short-listed for the British Sports Book Awards 2014.

Tiverton author Simon Nott’s début self-published ‘Skint Mob! – Tales From The Betting Ring’ has been short-listed for this year’s British Sports Book Awards horse racing section. The paperback was self-published by the author in November 2013 and been steadily gaining momentum largely though on-line recommendations since. That momentum gathered pace with a near full-page glowing review in UK racing trade daily The Racing Post in March.

Simon is 49 years old and born in Tiverton, Devon. The book relates to his time working for racecourse bookmakers from the late 1980’s to the 2008. It also takes in the period when he first got interested in racing and a stint in the Army. It is largely a vehicle to bring to life the colourful characters he met and incidents that occurred along the way. The nature of the story-telling and humour involved has made Skint Mob! a book that some reviewers have concluded will appeal to non-racing and racing fans alike.

Simon still works on racecourses and also writes as a freelance music journalist for various national publications. He also writes a popular ‘Tales From The Betting Ring’ blog which was shortlisted for the 2014 UK Blog Awards.

Simon can be contacted on simonnott@yahoo.co.uk and 07825 618 557.

The British Sports Book Awards take place at Lords on Wednesday 21st May. Full details can be found below.
