Leading online casino company, Jackpot247, has praised the impact of consumer protection regulations and technology in thwarting an alleged fraud involving an online gaming account in the US.

Police were able to utilise technology implemented as part of the regulatory requirements put in place by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement to determine that resident Diana Zolla may have fabricated an identity theft in order to avoid $10,000 in online gambling losses.

Zolla had earlier filed a report claiming that she was the victim of fraud and that someone had racked up the huge debt in her name.

The discovery of the alleged deception indicates that New Jersey regulations aimed at protecting online gaming consumers are being enforced.

According to various sources, a formal charge of theft by deception was brought after New Jersey State police collated information obtained from the defendant’s Internet Service Provider, banking transactions, and online gaming website and location records.

Recent technological advancements have made it very difficult for transactions to take place online without leaving a virtual paper trail, which makes it easier to detect fraudulent activity.

David Rebuck, Director of the Division of Gaming Enforcement, reaffirmed their allegiance with the police in working to deter fraudulent activity and inspire confidence in online gaming operations.

“Suspicious transactions are thoroughly investigated, and as this case shows, attempts to defraud New Jersey casinos will not be tolerated,” he added.

Jackpot247 believes the theory that online gaming could be a prominent target for criminal activity is unfounded, with a spokesperson for the company saying: “As this case has shown, the online gaming industry has both the regulations and the technology in place to successfully tackle illegal activities related to internet betting.”

Jackpot247 designs, creates and operates live roulette games broadcast on ITV and Sky channel 86, using casino certified equipment.
